NeuroMuscular Therapy (NMT) is a very specialized form of massage. NMT therapists go through extensive training and have a very thorough knowledge of the Anatomy and Physiology of the body. NMT incorporates various techniques such as static pressure, cross-fiber friction and long gliding strokes which are applied to the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to release Trigger Points and Knots. The entire length of the muscle is addessed, providing a very specific yet through massage.

Neuromuscular Therapy is used to address five elements that cause pain:

1. Ischemia: Lack of blood supply to soft tissues resulting in hypersensitivity to touch

1. Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other regions of the body
   
   
2. Nerve Compression or Entrapment: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone
   
   
3. Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes
   
   
4. Biomechanical Dysfunction: Imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns (i.e., poor lifting habits, bad mechanics in a golf swing or tennis stroke, computer keyboarding.
